OTUC on other Linux than RedHat

Hi.

I was wondering if it is possible to install OTUC on any other Linux distribution than RedHat delivered by Alcatel. RetHat 7.3 is now pretty old. What about Debian distribution?? Does anybody try to install on it?? Or maybe on any other Linux and have some experiences with it??

I have never tried, but I know Alcatel is working on a release that will work on RedHat 9, just like My Teamwork.
Until now they have not managed to get OTUC to work on this release.

So I wonder if it will work on a different distribution.
I think some procedures in OTUC are written just for RedHat 7.3.

If you try I'm very interested in the result!

Well. In couple of days I'll have new server for OTUC and I'll try to install it on Debian. Just for tests. I realize that even if it works on Debian Alcatel won't support this kind of installation but OTUC is in Java and in theory Java is independent of OS, so I guess it should work but this is only theory. Besides, RedHat 7.3 is pretty old now and some new equipment won't work on it. Alcatel support some servers for this RedHat but what about other new hardware??

Not just Java, it requires some C and O files, so if your Linux Distro doesn't have those libraries it wont work.

For example, to compile Apache and Tomcat there are specific libraries that some distros doesn't include by default, that is why the RH of Alcatel has the package selection option already configured.

Hmmm, if so, you may be right. I didn't know that during instalation some services are compiled. But when I get the new server for OTUC, I'll try to install it on Debian Distro (this is my favorite Linux). And after that I'll give you info about results.

Try to check how the Boot disk works, and you then may get what libraries and packages you need to install, this is the CD that indicates to RedHat on how to be installed.

Hello,

For info, r4.0 of OTUC should be released in the following weeks, and it runs on RH enterprise 4. Supported servers should be those supported by RH.

With minimal hardware requiments. PC never was the problem hardware (memory and CPU) is.

that's right. You'll probably need at least 2Gb of memory.

Hi everybody.

I've just make some tests if it is possible to install OTUC on other distro than this which is included to exact version. The answer is: NO, it is not possible. I'll try to install OTUC 4.0 on Debian 3.1 Sarge - faill, and OTUC 4.0 on RH 7.3 (which is from OTUC 3.0.x version) - fail. setup.bin from first CD of OTUC checks the version of installed Linux and when it is not matched - the setup is stopped wtih error. So, you have to use this version of Linux on which OTUC version is supported. It wouldn't be so wrong but RH Enterprise 4 is not free and Alcatel don't give it with OTUC - this Linux you have to buy separately.
