Hello,
we have PBX - password for root was changed and forgotten.

I try to recover root password on test PBX (release 9) but when use command like in doc from Frank - instead of shell with root rights I have message - enter root password for maintnance (or control-D for normal boot).

My question is - for recover root password in R9 we need to use another command or this is impossible.

Please not suggest to reload soft and database :D this is good but last way.

Hmm..strange I will try this in my lab.

Other possible solution: load a linux mandrake (or Ubuntu) on a virtual machine, take out the hdd from the PBX. Mount the hdd on the mandrake of the virtual machine. Use chroot command to change the root password.

See this for example: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-res ... -password/ . The difference is that you have to mount the disk from another machine (use external 2.5 HDD device).

Regards.

Other good solution,

Use PC installer, in mode "Loding linux in memory", mount the good partition in /mnt (it's a ramdisk) and edit the passwd file.
Delete the string between the first two : , save the file, reboot and retype a password for root.

Or if you have swinst password, restore a linux backup (cho-dat) from a standard CPU , type Yes to restore passwords, you have now the good password for root, restore after the daily backup from cho-dat without password restauration.
