ldap information import

hi,

in my company they have omni pcx 4400 and omnivista 4760 as management tool. I am a student, who doesn't know about telephony, but a little about LDAP, and am supposed to find out if it is possible to get the information from a Novell eDirectory (meaning Name, Location and Phone Number) into the Database of the OmniPCX 4400.
I thought it would be best to LDAP import the information via 4760. Has anybody done that? Are there things one should consider? Or is it just an "ldapmodify" Operation? Is there something like that with the 4760 tool?
When one gets deleted from the eDirectory that action should be taken in the Phone Directory, too.. so maybe it would be best to erase all the data in the Phone Directory and write it new with the Data from the eDirectory. The problem there is, that not ll the information that's in the Phone Directory is also in the eDirectory.. so I would somehow have to merge the data.. anybody got an idea?
Also I tried to get used to the 4760 tool.. I dont have access to the real tool, because we only got one license and I am not allowed to use it (how ironic).. so I downloaded ALCATEL/TOOLS/stand-alone-client-4760i.zip.. but I do not have access to a server, so I cannot test out the tool. Is there a way to emulate a server?

So many questions... maybe someone can point me in the right direction :)

You can.

1) Go to:
Applications
LDAP Phone Books
Create

And fill the parameters in there. It should work.

2 )You have to turn it on under System/Other System/System Parameters Phone book overflow on LDAP server

3) And then in entities (see which entity users are using) in the Overflow LDAP Phone Book set the index (1) you have created in step 1.

Good luck and welcome to the telephony world

First of all, thanks for the reply.

I didn't really understand your answer though. The problem is.. I rather need a basic understanding first. What are the steps you described for? What do I achieve when following those steps? Do they help in merging the data from the two directories? Or is that for somehow emulating a server?

Sorry for my not understanding.

With this you are indicating OXE to connect to your LDAP server and retrieve info about it. Once this is done in the PBX phonebook you will see the users of your AD listed, name, lastname, phone.
