CPU6 STEP 2 MEMORY
im creating a new lab kit with crystal boards. I have just received my repaired CPU6 step 2 from France.
I removed the memory when i sent the board away, and cant remember the specification of the memory board. I have a number of SDRAM's but cant remember which one came from the processor.
I have tried a number of SDRAM chips, the system boots up and i can visualy see the boot up menu via the V24 port. But when i go to boot from ethernet the terminal session does not respond, it wont even acknowledge my key input. Is this because the memory chip is wrong ? What is the perpose of the SDRAM on the CPU ? Just thinking out lound with my enquiring mind.
Thanks

No. I think it's no memory problem.

It's confusing for me...
Can you go to boot from ethernet or not?
Or post the terminal log here.

Re: CPU6 STEP 2 MEMORY
Can you tell me what memory chip size is required ?
I started the cpu and while viewing the boot up sequence i get the boot up menu...boot from ethernet, boot from hard drive etc.
When i press any of the options via my keyboard there is no responce from the terminal screen.
Does this error appear if the memory chip is faulty/incorrect ?
Also the memory check comes up failed, so i need to know the correct memory chip to install on the cpu6.

For current releases 128 MB but it doesn't matter.selectt wrote:Can you tell me what memory chip size is required ?
Is the "earth" wire correctly connected?selectt wrote:When i press any of the options via my keyboard there is no responce from the terminal screen.
Just try to connect a wire between PC com port ground/cover and the ACT frame.
Disconnect the laptop from power supply first.
Does it work then?
Uh? Mmh. Normal SDRAM modules. If it fit's it should work?!selectt wrote:Also the memory check comes up failed, so i need to know the correct memory chip to install on the cpu6.

Re: CPU6 STEP 2 MEMORY
Haven't got one to check but think that the ram for a cpu 6 is SDRAM PC100/133 Synchronous, depending on the vesion being loaded then either 64Meg or 128Meg for a lab system 64 should be ok even for 8.01Uh? Mmh. Normal DDR RAM modules. If it fit's it should work?!

Just try to connect a wire between PC com port ground/cover and the ACT frame.
I connect earth from ACT chasis to pc com port earth but still no joy.
I have moved the cpu to slot 20 and moved the ethernet and v24 cable to that slot, still not joy. System booting up i can view the boot up and view see the boot up menu but cant act on any of the options.
I have tried a different cpu same problem. I have changed the 25 to 9 pin cable from the system com ports pannel to my pc to joy. Tried a different pc no joy....ahhhhhhhhhhhh
I have checked the alcatel cable and it has 2,3 and 7 on the 25 pin side and 2,3 (reversed tx and rx) and 7 all working with multi meter.
I cant format my system if i cant get this v24 port working any more sugestion ?
thanks
