GA bootp not working

Post by mir »

Have 2 x GA boards on OXE MEX chassis which will not initialise (ie. REG NOT INIT)

Looking at the v.24 output, is does a bootp request, but gets no further than this.

Have tried these:
Reloaded GA binaries.
Created GA card.
Configured Ethernet parameters.

Have run out of ideas, can anyone help ??

If the GA is doing a bootp, then it has not saved the binaries to flash. When you flash the GA, make sure it is on a network that can connect to the CS and check binary version. Also, if you are using security, you need to make sure the mac address is programmed correctly in the ethernet parameters of the GA board.

btw it is a GA2 card, and I followed the TC0521 on this.

It recommends putting the GA2 card in the control slot (slot 0) andconnecting direct to GA2 card with crossover cable and dip switch in lola mode (ie. only network connection is to my laptop running PC installer)

I can monitor the binary transfer, and when it is completed the v.24 shows PeeWee Linux login :

Then the TC says to power off card, turn of PC installer, and put dip switch back to normal.

I will try to do binary transfer using standard cable with GA connected to same LAN as CS and all other cards...is this what u think should happen ?

update:

GA boards successfull boot up when placed into chassis containing GD.

The problem is the MEX card in their original chassis, it says REG not INIT.

I tried another brand new MEX card and brand new chassis, still wont work.

Is there something I am missing withe the MEX board and cable (the red one with pins 1/2 & 3/6 crossed), it always says REG NOT INIT

At the rate the moderater posts my messages I should hear back some time in 2010 ;)

I'm sorry you don't appreciate the help the people on this forum provide in their spare time. You can always open a case with Alcatel and wait for them...

Do you have the shelf configured correctly? It should be configured as expansion off the GD? Have you replaced the cable? cables are known to go bad too. Is this a new installation?

Check the HSL daugther boards on the GD and the MEX boards.

Thx for taking the time to read my post
It was just taking ages between submitting a post, having it reviewed by the moderator and actually seeing it on the site, so that someone else could actually reply.

I have it all configured correctly, as far as I am aware, will most likely log with Alcatel

:)
