Networking license

Post by mike »

Hello,

I'm attempting to network our 4400 system with an Asterisk server by linking a PRA2 interface to a Sangoma PRI card, probably using qsig. My telecom provider tells me I'll need a 'networking license' for the Alcatel system to do this.

Does anyone know what license they're referring to and what sort of price I can expect. A pointer to any suppliers (preferably in the UK) might be useful too.

My provider takes months to come up with quotes for this kind of thing and then overcharges. I've ordered the hardware I need from elsewhere and figured out most of the configuration but am not sure about this aspect.

Is license installation done through the 4760 software or somehow else?

I believe if you are using a PRA , it s not going to be a license.
It is license only if you use another alcatel pbx on the network.
can someone confirm ?

If it is ABC-F/QSIG/SIP - you need networking licensies

I might be wrong but on some releases a networking license is free

I was able to create a trunk group and specify qsig and it hasn't tried to stop me, so perhaps I don't need an extra license. I haven't got the thing working yet though, so I'm not sure.

QSIG

I don't believe there is a charge for QSIG. If you purchase a PRI/ISDN card it comes with it. But if you try to use ABCF with any media you have to purchase a license.

Mike,

Did you try to setup a trunk in between the PBX and Asterix, and create a routing number..?

I think if there is any license issue for networking, then it should be opend in OPS.
T2 link with ABC-F signalling may work for you.

Yes, I created a trunk group and set the type to qsig (have also been testing with basic isdn), and under translator->prefix plan have pointed a prefix to this trunk group.

I've had limited success with very noisy calls that cut off after a few seconds - I'm guessing this is because of my crazy home-made cable. I should have a better idea of what works when the proper cable arrives but I have to wait a few more weeks to get that.
