Mount Floppy

Post by ortega »

Hi! I'm just starting with Alcatel 4400. Thanks for this forum.

What is the file system of the floppy? I want to mount it. I changed to superuser, but need to know the filesystem in order to mount the floppy. I've tried many but without success. Any help?

Thans for your attention.

You don't need to mount it.
The only use for the floppy would be to restore/save OPS files.
You can do this trough the swinst menu.

I believe if you really want to use it for other stuff, you can use the default m tools from Unix (mdir, mcopy...)

Hi! Thanks for the answer. I want to mount it because I want to copy the files to the disk and save them in safe location. Floppies are not safe to trust. When you make the backup to the disk it uses far more space so I want the files in the floppy (in order to retrieve them through analog line). Mtools won't work because the floppy is not a MS-DOS disk. I've been trying the command: mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy -s [file system] with all file systems I know but without success. It must be possible to mount the floppy. But I don't have any idea on wich is its file system. I've been searching the net, also, but with no results. Can anybody help?

It would be helpful to me to have on a server the floppies backups of the clients I have to support. Floppies are a pain in the ass.

Any help?

Why just don't do a backup on 4400 HD and then FTP and copy them?

Hi! Thanks for the answer.

The backup in the hard drive is on /usr4/BACKUP/IMMED ?

I just see there two files. Are those the same files written in the floppy when we make backup to the floppy?

Thanks for your attention.

The system makes a backup of the database on its own hard drive.
Those are all the folders you can see under /usr4/BACKUP

Also, you can backup your license files under /usr4/BACKUP/OPS

Hi!

It's strange that nobody can mount the floppy. It's an Unix system, right? It should be possible.

So, if I want to completely backup an Alcatel 4400, I should copy all the files in /usr4/BACKUP? Would that be enough?

Thanks for your attention.

normally he is sufficient to carry out the backup from swinst of MAODATA, CHORUS-LINUX SITE DATA and eventually 4635 or 4645 DATA.
the files of backup are put exactly in /usr4/BACKUP/IMMED.

MAODATA contains OPS FILES.

best regards
