Hi Franck,

I've already instllal the 4980 on my PC for tests and I must say that it's not terrible !

You can't associate your Netmeeting or others with it so you yet use your old phone !!!

You can see with, the calls lost, done or received (classic); I don't remember all but it's very limited :?

bye

This is so not true.
We are running a 4400 pcx in my firm, and are currently running a test with a4980, before wide deployment. ATM we are only ~10 users of the service.

The Good:
*Manages your handset excellently while in the office. (ie: the phone immidiately updates with whatever config you set in 4980).
*Out of the office mode, where you can manage your calls remotely without having any sort of handset og mic/headset availible. Gives you access to most options and missed calls etc (good when your travelling and have ended up at very narrow bw and just want a update on lost calls, before you foreward all call to your cell)
*IP-phone that just works (well... if your firewall is strict, you might have to make some changes but...)
*Integrates with Outlook on a fly
*Integrates well with LDAP

The Bad:
*IP-phone requires a reliable internet connection. Spikes in network traffic could easily drop the sound in your end, the other end, or both for a few secs. Never had a dropped call tho. (Anyways: don't we all run networks with QoS enabled?).
*Integration with Outlok is partially flawed. That is, it works like a charm, but the recent security approch MS have taken with regards to office gives you a dialog box every time a plugin tries to access you contact list. While this is all good for defeating viruses, it's a real PIA when every time you get a call, you need to hunt for the outlook window hiding the dialog box (and thus disabeling all other outlook windows).
*It's 'bout as well documentet as the windows API was ten years ago (IE: if your lucky enough to find any info, it's bound to be sub-par and mostly outdated).
*The Alcatel web-site sucks ass. The info you find 'bout 4980 at the official page... well... sucks...

All in all: If the program was better documented it would be a lot easyer to use, but it's a really good program.

4980 Installation question

Post by macosx »

Hi to all,

It might be a bit off topic, but I am also try to install 4980 server on a Winodws 2000 server that would connect to a OXE 6.0.3 that come with default five 4980 license. Without purchasing addition license. Would I be able to setup this beast?

Yet, I managed to setup the server and the software, but the CD that I had do not seem to be up-to-date that does not have the 6.XX release that my pbx currently run. After long hour and hair pulling, I managed to get this server going.

After all the trouble, I connect the client to server without a problem. The very first call that I make with the error message" It is impossible to make a call for the moment."

What is wrong with this configuration? I would appreciated any one with some insight that can enlighten me on this topic.

I also notice there is plenty of third party solution that would solve this type of case where mobile user with laptop can use internet connection that connect back to company network and make call as you normal do in office. Alcatel or third party solution would soleved this issue would be OK. Pointer? Comment.

Thanks in advance.

Im installing a WebSoftphone (OTUC) IP and its amazing, just your browser and you can make calls, the bad is that i don't know why the music on hold doesn't work. Very strange. Apart from that customer is extreamly happy that they can have a good conversation without installing additional software when traveling. Very nice app.

Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie, where can I find the softphone installation? Is it on one of the Alcatel install cd's and/or is it available online?

Regards,
Roland
