Hello Murray (or anyone else who can help)
After getting our Avaya voicemail all set up, we still have one issue remaining before we can deploy it campus-wide. On IP Touch phones, when the user presses the vm button to access the vm (or uses the keyboard shortcuts) the voicemail system does not recognize the calling extension and plays the "if you have a mailbox on this system" message. We are using the Audiocodes gateway, and their tech says that the 4400 is not sending the caller ID. How can I configure the PCX to send the calling extension information over the 4620 CLIP configured analog lines?

can they provide a trace of what they see on the lines? I know that a direct call will not present the user id but a mail call will.
is it okay when someone tries to leave a message?
Best Regards

It is OK when someone leaves a message. It is just when a person tries to retrieve the message that they have to enter their mailbox number. With the old Alcatel VM, the system "knew" who was calling, now if you do the keyboard shortcut (in our case *##) it responds with "if you have a mailbox on this system". Is there something we missed in setting up the analog lines or the hunt groups or even our COS settings that prevents the extension number from being sent to the Avaya? I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the extension number would be sent, just like it is when you call any other internal extension.

[added] Also, I just thought I'd ask, what is the difference between a "direct" call and a "mail" call?

Hi, see below the codes sent to the voicemail when calls are directed to it ( this is fron the docs).
a direct call "A7" is when you dial either the vps port or vps group directory number. only A7 is sent with no id of the extn calling. In our country we use the prefix ** as mail consultion call. when we dial ** the PCX rings the number of the voicemail defined in the user. the digits sent to the voicemail are A2 then the extn number. the voicemail needs to reconise the different codes below to do the correct functiion.

"After the call number is dialled (voice mailbox holder number or voice mail system number),
the PABX automatically generates a voice mail system access code, which depends on the call
conditions. Only code A0 is entered manually, just after the voice mail number.
The following is the list of access codes:

A0: access to the automated attendant general menu.
A1+ directory number : voice mail call after unconditional forwarding,
A2 + directory number : voice mail call for consultation,
A3 + directory number : voice mail call for message drop directly into the user's voice mailbox,
A4: automated attendant callback after failure of a transfer on no reply,
A5 + directory number : voice mail call after forwarding on busy,
A6 + directory number : voice mail call after forwarding on no reply,
A7: voice mail call. Access to a voice mailbox after identification of the holder (directory number + personal code).

The directory number corresponds to the number of the voice mailbox holder."

hope that helps explain what I ment.
Best Regards
Murray
