default route with higher metric

Post by dathan »

Hi all,

I need to know whether i can have a default route with a higher metric.
i.e ip static-route 0.0.0.0/0 gateway xx.xx.xx.xxx metric 100

This is because i am having two redundant switches with vlans configured for vrrp. It is connected to two other customer different vendor switches which is also configured for vrrp. I have configured default route from my vrrp master switch to point to the vrrp virtual Ip of the customer with default metric (metric 1). From the vrrp standby, i have configured the default route with a higher metric (metric 100). but when i do a "show ip route", this higher metric default route is not displayed in standby switch. So i need to know whether i can have a default route with a higher metric and also if this is required for the above scenario.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

regards

Hi dathan,
Here is to explanation.
Please note that since 6.4.3 you can use recursive static routes.
But if I understood correctly, you are not needed to change the metric on your standby switch, since both sides uses vrrp
