Some 4760 questions?

Post by tjm0852 »

Can customized attribute fields be added to the database. For example building, room and jack number, cost center ID, budget codes...?

This way you could reference other information about a particular number quickly and easily through the 4760. At a minimum I would like to be able to include and/or run reports based on Cost Code ID's.

If these extra attribute fields can be added can someone please give me some help as how to do this. Also would the extra feilds need to be entered manually or can you import a file with the information?

Thanks much!

Ok I'll try to be more specific.

Can I make changes the names of the fields within user>accounting>properties? I would like to change the names of the fields like address, postal code, city, country to more useful fields like, building, room number, jack number...

The other place I have found would be the Miscellaneous fields found under Directory> Miscellaneous tab, fields Misc.#1-#5.

I can enter whatever information I want to, however I can not seem to find a way to change or modify those given field names. I am also not able to use any of the fields mentioned above when I [search] [in] [where]...I only see parameters like extension, first name, cost code...

Thanks

Read the chapter "Customizing Dictionaries" in Section 1 "Interface" of the 4760 Admin Guide. I uploaded Section 1 to the pastebin:

From the FAQ on the BPWS: OmniVista 4760: How can I modify the list of directory search criteria?

Example customization: Search directory entries using Misc1 as filter.
1. Start 4760 configuration.
2. Open the directory module. In the technical tab, go to nmc\NmcConfiguration\GlobalPreferences\DirectoryClient\SearchClasses\person
3. The default search criteria are listed the misc1 field can be added for example double-click the Filter attributes list, then right-click Add a value
4. Confirm the modification.
5. Caution, server performance is affected by searches performed on the misc1 field, thus this field must be indexed by the Netscape console.

Note
This is a customization of the 4760 application. Thus the modifications performed must be recorded in a document. This document will allow the modifications to be reproduced when updating the server.
To know the name of the LDAP fields, refer to the 4760 documentation, Directory.

Can you please elaborate on the fields being indexed by Netscape console. I am not sure what you mean. Sorry I am still a little new to 4760.

Thanks much for some answers they will be quite helpful :!:

I think Alcatel tries to say, that the 4760 server may slow down if you have many users and add many fields of the database to the search function.

In earlier versions of 4760 (when the FAQ was written), one of the servers databases was a software from Netscape. That is why they are referring to "Netscape console".

Ok, perfect thanks for clarifying that for me.

I believe this information will make a lot of people happy around here. Well except for one person who thought a separate MS Access DB was better than 4760
