Convergence time

Post by spriling »

Hi folks,

Consider the following scenario. I have Switch A and Switch B connected through 2 optical links, in redundancy.

To test the link redundancy, I connect PC X to Switch A and PC Y to Switch B. I start a continuous ping between both. Now:

1. I disconnect link 1 - the ping does not fail.
2. I reconnect link 1 - one packet is dropped in the ping.
3. I disconnect link 2 - the ping does not fail.
4. I reconnect link 2 - one packet is dropped in the ping.

Is this the expected behaviour? Being the convergence time less then 50 ms this shouldn't be better (i mean, no drop packets)? Thanks for your support.

I'd consider this "normal behaviour". I suggest that you either use a link-aggregation to connect the switches or another feature like DHL that allows to avoid Spanning-Tree-Protocol (STP).

Thanks. I tried with the link aggregation and it works just fine.
