IP Touch 4028 failures

Post by technicus »

Hello,

I was wondering if a failure rate of nearly 10% isn’t too high for our IP Touch 4028 phones installed in 2010-2011 (so out of warranty).

Compared with the older digital phones (4035, 4020 or even 4023), I find the new IP Phones less reliable. Could that being caused by the PoE switches?
We use mainly Cisco Catalyst 2960 with PoE.

The usual failures for the IP phones are:
- “no network” message
- all lights on, no display
- no lights, no display

So did someone else have the same issues ?

Ive not yet found a reason why this happens. the phones in question are always just out of warranty!
we also use the Cisco switches with PoE ( 2960, 3560 etc)

I'm beginning think that the problem is caused by a oscillation of the supply voltage of the switch phones, so I think the electronic board suffers problems with this oscillation
And I think that phones are not completely damaged
Some returned to operate

Yeah that sucks but that is why you should have a support contract with your partner. Its like a Car, after a time no factory warranty, but if you have it under assurance then they will cover you. Same idea here. No one will.cover you for a whole life.

we got the same failure. After reboot a switch (OS6850) 10% 4028 IP Phones got all lights on.

the answer was: A certain model range (produced Jan. 2009- Dec.2010) got a flash memory failure.

AL will repair the faulty flash memory.

tip: Before you reboot the switch turn all POE Ports to admin down...after reboot turn in interval of five ports the ports up.
