Hi All,
On Linux, if you're using latest GNS3 1.1, KVM check-box is not available in GUI. You would have to run the VM with additional options.

Edit -> Preferences -> QEMU -> QEMU VMs -> Edit your VM
Advanced settings, Additional Settings, Options

Add line: -machine accel=kvm. It will override default tcg accelerator and will decrease CPU utilization significantly.

Hello everyone,

I tried to install Alcatel-Lucent SROS(vSROS Release 5) on GNS3 1.1 Version.

Install is OK, but Ping does not work. Please, refer to below URL and try to find final working Solution.

Does anyone have the ALU documentation on this (one that was given away at SRExperts). I am a customer and have a login to the ALU customer support site, but can't find any documentation for this other than in the release notes.

Anyone found an equivalence under Windows 7 x64 ?

I'm running a Corei7 + 8Gb of RAM, with IntelVt enabled, and get the CPU at 100% (+ fans running at max) after starting 3 routers only. I would like to build a min 4-5 routers topo.
I've installed it on GNS3 on a DELL Server running Linux (at work) and using this value decrease significantly the CPU (was running around 5-10% under normal load).

Thanks,
Franck.

I have the same problem when running on Win 8.1. The CPU reaches 100% when adding 4 routers. This is a pain when all of them reload at the same time. If anyone have the solution for Windows please share. Thanks.

Hyperthreading enabled on your Bios?

Hyperthreading enabled on your Bios?
Yes, on my side it is enabled (core i7 dual core, showing 4 threads).

I noted that on the DELL Linux server (6 cores, 16gb RAM), I had the same behaviour (100% CPU) until I activated the "-machine accel=kvm".

I mean, on newer computers you need to allow that vm machines can access to hyperthread features on them. It is a lower layer, software accessing directly to the CPU features and not the OS.
So on your BIOS there must be something to enable that. Hyperthread for VM software.
It is called Hyper-v and your CPU must have it. It is not a all CPU can do it feature.

Virtualization is not as simple as it seems. Many behind tricks and restrictions are there. You need to learn more about it before trying to do something like what you are trying. A whole system on a laptop...
