Firmware mismatch issue

Post by rooted »

Hi,

I need to install a new OS6250 to replace a non working switch into a two members stack. The working switch is the secondary, and the new one replaces the primary.

The secondary have 6.6.3.439.R01 firmware version (actually secondary, and future secondary too).

The new switch have 6.6.4.177.R01 firmware version (and will be the primary so)

Do I need to upgrade the firmware of the secondary, downgrade the new primary or may the secondary will upgrade their firmware version taken from the new primary when I connect the new and power on?

Hi,
for creating stack you Need at both Switches the same main-release. You have to decide: 6.6.4 (upgrade the secondary) or 6.6.3 (downgrade the new one). After stack-connection the Switch with longer uptime will copy its Image into the other.
In your case I would prefer to upgrade to the newest 6.6.4.

AFAIK the downgrade will happen automagically, so same main release is not needed.
The new switch will get it's (working) directory from the running on. Only if you have 6.6.1 and connect it to a newer version the "stack-protocol" is incompatible and stops them from communicating.
But a controlled update is better. Be carefull if you update both to 6.6.4 and connect them, slot 1 will be master and may erase the config of the running Solt 2 (have a backup!)

But i would (as Silvio suggested) go for the latest 6.6.4 (6.6.4.280 ?). Also think about updateing uboot/miniboot and fpga to get the pushbutton to work.

Finally, I connected and the new member (6.6.4) gets firmware from master (6.6.3) automatically by stack-protocol. After this, I need to reconfigure VLANs assigned on secondary member ports.

May be i'll do a firmware upgrade on all the stack soon.

Thanks all.
