switch login

Post by enima89 »

Hello all,

I have a OmniSwitch 6250 on which I have been doing some tests. Last time I shut it down normally and now when I try connecting to it via the console port I can't (I get get a blank screen on putty) and I didn't set telnet or ssh so now I can't configure the switch and when using wireshark there no addresses configured so what can I do ?

Regards.

try your cable/putty settings with another switch, to verify operation.
Did you change console settings in miniboot (baudrate, ..?)

If you have tested the cable and you still have not output even when rebooting the 6250 i would RMA it.
Console is needed for any recovery i know.

a while ago I recovered it from a corrupted flash, changelog stated that it's fixed, guess the hw isn't that great.

I have an installation with about 100*6250 without any problems.
@rekeds: if you had a corrupted flash i gues you where hit by the 6.6.3.GA bug, where kBase will be 0 bytes. But in that case you had a console output allowing a recovery and some output stating that it could not load Kbase.img - no console output is a different story

lucky you! :D
we installed about 40, about 10 of them got the corrupted flash bug, and one died on the way to a customer after we pre-configured it in the lab (OK not blinking, Pwr led was green, no console).

haven't had any troubles with 6400/6850s, 6450 (the same code as for 6250) or 6900, omnistacks still are my favorites, they just keep running, I think I've seen one dead unit (was hit by lightning :D replaced the chip for gig ports and good to go).

I had the problems with the first batches of 6450 (which died because of the flash issue) with 6.6.3.GA but yet failed to see it on 6250 as well..

I had good and bad experiences with more or less every vendor (Alcatel and Cisco, Brocade, Fortinet). So i guess it depends on luck.
