Difference between VPRN and IES

Post by mike18 »

Hi Everyone,

I am new to Alcatel and trying to understand the MPLS network.
Both VPRN and IES uses layer 3 interface.
Port type while using VPRN and IES is network type right?
Routing protocol can be configured under VPRN and IES right?

Need to know what is difference between the VPLS and IES services?

No, you configure an access port if you have a SAP configured (such as for a VPRN or IES service). You run your interior network protocol on your network port which connects to the rest of your internal network.
There is also the concept of a hybrid port.

Yes you can configure a PE-CE routing protocol under an IES or VPRN service.

IES (and VPRN) services are routed layer 3 services.

VPLS is an emulated layer 2 service so things look like one big flat LAN.
An alternative way to VPLS of providing a LAN emulation service is EVPN.
