OTUC R4.1 in a VMWare environment

Post by jdelaet »

hi all

i know that the OTUC works in a VMWare environment in the LAB.
Now we have a customer who wants to install only the My Messaging part for 50 users on his VMWare servers. Its connected with a UM on a Lotus Notes 7 Server .
Will this be performant enough??

As well the account manager didnt offer the TTS Function. He told he received a mail from Alcatel that the TUI Part will work (but i am not convinced)
Can anyone confirm this, and what will work (and what not)

Thanx

Well the only limitant will be on the hardware. TTS consumes a lot of Microprocessor resources when working, that is why a Xeon processor is required, however the Micro that VMWare provides is not fast enought to handle the requirements that TTS will do, that is why it will probably fail.
Why a VMWare? Why not a dedicated server and install all features or be ready for them?
On a lab enviroment is ok, not much to worry about as it's lab, but on production? I don't know.
MyMessaging is the one that more components uses, and so it's the most complex of all.
MyPhone is simple, MyAssistant too, MyTeamwork complex too but a separated dedicated server required. Also for TW i don't think it will run on a VMWare as happens the same as MyMessaging, too many processes requerided to run at once.

I heard about a teacher of Alcatel University in Austria. He did the trainings on VMware. Then the participants of those courses did the same on production system and had problems. Of couse they opend a Service-Request... Alcatel was not pleased with that and refused support.
Now the teacher has to tell everyone that VMware is only for the lab.

But I am planing for a new lab system and would be interested what CPU and how much memory is needed on the system should have which runs VMware.

Do I need a 64 Bit OS for more that 4 GB of memory?
Do I get problems when using VMware with 32 Bit OSes on that 64 Bit system?

Please forget OTUC production systems in VMware. The TTS engine does not work correct because of some timeing issues. Also "Virtual environments" are not supported by Alcatel for any of their applications. I've installed OTUC in my lab for testing on VMware. The host processor is an Intel Xeon 3,6GHz with 4GB of RAM. For the OTUC virtual machine I've reserved 2GB of RAM as recommended but Emily 8kHz can't speak normal...
