Gateway access R6 thru Vmware

Post by nagan »

Hello
I made a R6 within a vmware machine. F1603
I am in a bridge mode
Netadmin is well managed.

But

I can't ping or access the gateway.
I only can access the physical host that's all. Even on the same LAN i can't ping the others @IP.
This is very inconvenient for the GD !!

This is true until F5. We use appliance server with PC installer - Blade server is not available in these versions.
I am on workstation vmware 6.5.
route is correct
arp -a is empty
Can somebody help me if it is possible ?

The on difference between F1 and F5 is the type of the ethernet card (see in modules.conf
F1 -> pcnet32
F5 -> E1000

may be there is a problem with this type of card through vmware ?

thanks for help

Hello again

I have resolved the problem.
The missing argument was the MAC Address within the config file of the ethernet card.

It was the same problem -in these old versions - in the F5 version but the way is different.

So, you have to memorize the MAC address of the virtual machine (inside the vmx file or at the boot load time).

Install your version.

Log as root

Then, modify the content of the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethx (always eth0 within these versions).

Add the line :
MACADDR="00:0C:29:xx:yy:zz"

save the file.
reboot.

if you type ifconfig command you will see the MAC address known and then network is available.
The difference with the F5 versions is that the missing argument stop the load of the version. You have to use the HWADDR variable instead of MACADDR.
The variable is different because the start script in oldest vefrsion use the MACADDR variable to start the network.

Have a good journey.
