IBS DECT synchronization

Post by vad »

Whether a case met someone in real life?
Object - big accommodation camp. Many small buildings (offices, hotels, canteen). Infrastructure between buildings - optic cables and Cisco switches.

We want to install DECT system.
With IP-DECT - not supported ABC-F2 features - network roaming. And we can have problem in the feature with IP DECT limits (256 base station, 1500 users).
With TDM DECT - we can install IP remote shelves (MR1) with UA boards and IBS DECT in some buildings. But in this case we can have problem with synchronisation. When user will go from one building to another (DECT cover area with overlapping) - not sure DECT set will be switched from one base station to another or not.

May be someone have experience with such case?

Hi vad

I had a case with media gateways three years ago where I had two buildings relatively near each other that I could create an ovelapping area, with four IBS on MG #1 and two on MG #2. It creates a problem because DECT sync as you have mentioned, I needed to install all IBS on the same MG (I had wire between buildings that saved my life    ).
After the situation I read TC about DECT sync and it explained why I had the problem, no sync among MGs (GD boards). But I read somenthing about new boards INTIP-3 would have DECT sync on crystal hardware. I don't have free time today to check it ou but I am tryng to do it as soon as possible. I would post here if I get something. Try to check out TC about DECT sync on INTIP-3.
If DECT sync is not possible even with MR1, the only way is having a shadow area, that in not cool.

I hope I could help you.

Best regards.

I had this use case in the past -IP DECT was not available.

In my case as there were big buildings involved (crystal hw involved) we opted for INTOF fiber connection. Handover is transparent. Depending on how buildings are distributed and the available cable connections (and their quality) you may cover big areas with a few remote shelves connected in this way.

You can consider using common hardware via MEX for some areas depending on the length (I have used HDSL links of up to 250-300m in the past). Other limitations of course are that only two MEX connections are possible and that there will be only on synchro domain for this MG (so back to initial problem).

You can go for VoWlan solution using existing AP/controller infrastructure (depends however how this was designed). In the past I have installed just one site with Motorola controllers and APs. I am not aware of the current limitations (however these are IP users). At that time I have installed not so many users with SVP (Spectralink) boxes (I think sell from ALU is discontinued now). Roaming is a big question, but I feel that if you have a good network between nodes, VoWlan users could work in a remote site linked to the main site where they are configured (just data network routing configuration). You can ask if you can still build such solution with support from ALU and Spectralink (they have big SVP servers available) --> last doc with compat was for R9.1 (look on ABPS in Tech Knowledge base --> OXE --> Wireless LAN). From my point of view it should still be a workable solution --> discontinued mostly for pushing ALU (aruba) controllers --> I think there should be still a PCS form somewhere for other controllers use.

IP Dect base station limit is 750 I think. User limit is as you mentioned (1500).

These are my 5 cents.

Hi vad

Take a look at TC 0274. It explains DECT sync with INTIP3. Maybe it helps your case.
