PM5 - cannot open database - shows as: [closed] - ??

Post by dewimike »

Hi all. Greetings from Adelaide, Australia. :)

I googled my problem and came across this forum. I realise I am a newbie here, but wondered if someone might be able to help me.... please...! (If I am posting in the incorrect forum, I apologise, and am happy for you to let me know what I should be doing.)

I am the only person in my office to have the Alcatel PM5 software installed on my computer, and the external company who used to look after us has had some issues with Alcatel and can no longer support us.

Up until recently the PM5 software has been working fine, but yesterday and now again today when I try to open it, it simply sits in the task bar showing:
PM5 - Database: [closed]

I cannot do anything with this then, other than to go into the Task Manager and end the task.

The software shows in the Start menu as PM5 R210 33.0. I have not updated this since the original installation 2 1/2 years ago (I'm not sure where to get an update from, if there is one), but have not felt the need to as it has always functioned well. I know what I need to know to change users' names, phone settings etc, as well as keep our master phone book up to date, and the software has always worked without a hitch.

Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

Cheers,
Michael.

(I am reasonably IT literate and experienced, so you don't need to dumb responses down too much.)

EDIT: I just tried installing the software onto a laptop and I can run it fine from there. So, I completely removed the software from my desktop, restarted, reinstalled the software and still get the same issue as described above. Most frustrating!

On your PC uninstall and on regedit search all keys for Alcatel and PM5, delete them and reinstall.

Thank you for your suggestion. I appreciate your assistance. I gave this a try, but unfortunately it did not resolve the problem - still does the same thing... :(

I may have to resort to getting out the laptop every time I need to use it.

Cheers,
Michael.

Reformatting isn't an option, unfortunately. I might have to shell out a few dollars for support, I think. Will probably cost me less in the long run, though, given how much time I have already wasted on this.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Michael.

Thanks Jigger. I'm in Adelaide and there's a business reasonably close that supports Alcatel systems, so I think I might give them a call.

Cheers,
Michael.

Be carful who you deal with.

Alot of these guys give about 10 minutes training then send them out to install.

The number of R1 and 2 systems with cut up plans....... Try to make sure you are working with a recent ACFE (Not a R1)

For the benefit of me the dumb newbie - what do R1 and 2 and ACFE (Not a R1) all mean?

Thanks for your input Jigger.

Cheers,
Michael.

He means you must ask for an ACFE (Alcatel Certified Field Expert) certificated guy (something like CCNA certificate on Cisco). The R1 is Release 1, R2 or 2 means Release 2 (versions) however we are now on version 6 (?? Not an OXO expert but believe this is the last general release) so you must ask for a guy who knows what is he doing. I personally will ask for an ACSE (Alcatel Certified System Expert) as those get more training (in theory...) and has more experience (in theory again...)
