Is it possible to change the mailbox No. of Administrator

Post by spring »

I have a problem on the 4656VMS. There are two mailboxes "00" and "01" on the VMS. My client insist to install extensions starting from 00 such as 0001, 0089...
I cannot create any mailbox number starting from 00. Please tell me how to change the Administrator mailbox number

According to TC0826:

You are not allowed to create Alcatel 4645 mailboxes starting with 00, 01, *, #, A, B, C, D.
Mailbox 00 is dedicated for Administration menu.
Mailbox 01 is the default mailbox for automated attendant.
Note
Take into account this restriction at level of the installation dialing plan.

why not make the real extension numbers as 20001 and 20089 etc.. and create 'local short dialling' prefix's for those extensions eg.

00 = 200

That way your customer gets what he wants and you get a safe exit and good use of 4645.

only issue with that knight is that you will need to enter the 5 digits into the vmail if you are accessing off another extn not your own or you dial in from external....

Small price to pay I think. Especially when you are sitting at your phone calling lots of different extensions and checking your own mailbox. I doubt they will be spending half there life at another extension, though I know what you mean.

agreed Knight but i have a 100+ nodes (in early stage) that i have all around the world that need to access there vm systems when they are off site, i am using short dialling prefix and they are already complaing about having to dial extra digits instead of there extn number. :D

I agree with you oldboy - However, i also believe that you - more than most people on this forum - will not let a customer use a stupid numbering plan.

edit: no offence oldboy - i said the above because your posts are generally 100% accurate on target :D and yo useem to be able to tell the difference between a 4400 and a banana

LOL - not wrong foot - but come on, seriously. Why do some customers insist on using a certain numbering plan even after you tell them what the potential future problems and limitations it will cause.

Just look at how many posts there are like - "I would like to change my numbering from 3 to 5 digits etc..." I guarentee you will not find a post asking to make the number size smaller  If you do, then I will blow my own engine up!

When you have been installing telephone systems for nearly 20 years, surely your experience should be taken in consideration by customers.

HA!

Don't you know Knight, that the customer is always right. They always seem to call after the fact
