Locking an IP set to a particular port.

Post by Dave Hughes »

I need to lock all the IP sets to their particular port and to not allow the users to move the sets just by unplugging and plugging to a different location. The issue comes up because of E911. The user would not be in the location they are suppose to be in if they need medical attention and they dial 911. I have an option in the data equipment using port-security command but it is cumbersome to do having over 1000 users.

Thanks for any help and I like this website, it is good to know other people are out there working through the same troubles.

MMhh.. I never tried the security options with the Alcatel.
A solution would be to plug the IP phone into a secured programmed switch. Liek on Cisco or HP or 3COM, you can turn on a security feature which is going to tell the switch to allow ONLY the first mac address that had been connected to this port, to stay on this port. Anything else or new will be rejected. Then when you have everything set up, just block all free ports ...
